Stocking Tips: Storing Your Stockings
I store my stockings in a vintage wooden file cabinet my husband gave me for Christmas a few years ago. In the two bottom deeper drawers I keep them in jam jars and in the top drawers neatly rolled simply because the top drawers aren’t deep enough for the jars.I picked up the tip about storing your nylons in a jam jar from an old magazine article from the 1950s and I know I've spoken to you about using jam jars a few years ago, but haven't found anything better since, so I'm sticking with this as they work so well.
You can use any jam jar, but I use hexagonal jam jars from Lakeland (a UK kitchen & craft store). The hexagonal jars are great space savers as they slot together like a jigsaw puzzle.
Sheer stockings are super, super delicate and really, and it's not just about when you're wearing them: they also get damaged when you're washing or storing them. By storing them in a glass jar, there are no sharp edges so they're totally safe, and you can clearly see what you have and what you might need to stock up on.
Lingerie Tips: How to Store Your Lingerie
When it comes to lingerie, I have little plastic containers that fit the depth of the drawer and fit 5 across, so I can have 5 rows of lingerie sets which are held firmly in place. The original containers were from Ikea many years ago, but the main thing is finding some to fit your particular drawer.
I always fold my lingerie up by set; so I do like the bra, the knicker and the suspender; as opposed to all the bras, all the knickers etc. As a set it's easier to grab first thing in the morning. There are two different methods for folding bras depending on whether it’s a soft cup or underwired: please check out my video above to see how it’s done.
Lingerie Tips: How to Store Your Corset
For my corset; I generally only have one corset on the go at a time, which I wear every day; I hang it to air overnight over the end of my bedstead but you can just hang it over the back of a chair. It’s very important to let it breath overnight as corsets aren’t the easiest garments to clean.
