Vintage Shapewear – The Foundation of 1950s Style

The secret to a true vintage silhouette lies beneath the surface. Our Vintage Shapewear collection is inspired by the foundation garments worn by Hollywood icons and everyday women throughout the 1940s and 1950s—when shaping the body was an essential part of dressing well.

Inspired by Vintage, Made for Today

Our shapewear is rooted in vintage authenticity, drawing directly from period patterns and designs in founder Katie's extensive archive. From the smooth lines of the open-bottom girdle to the dramatic waist-cinching power of a waspie, these are garments created not for novelty but for genuine retro shaping.

Whether you're aiming for the ultra-glamorous look of a 1950s starlet or want to smooth and sculpt your silhouette beneath a modern outfit, our Glamour Shapewear offers timeless solutions that work.

The Power of the Hourglass

In the 1950s, achieving an hourglass figure was a fashion essential—curves were in, and shapewear helped create the ideal look. Waist cinchers (also known as waspies), open-bottom girdles, and corselettes were all part of a woman’s wardrobe. These pieces shaped the waist, flattened the tummy, and smoothed the hips, creating a flawless foundation for full skirts, wiggle dresses, and form-fitting pencil skirts.

We take this legacy seriously. Each piece in our vintage shapewear collection is crafted using vintage techniques and high-quality fabrics, like firm powermesh and stretch satin, with carefully placed boning for structure where you need it most.

Styles with History

  • Waspie Waist Cinchers: Popularised with Dior’s 1947 “New Look” and refined in the 1950s, the waspie is a short corset designed to nip in the waist. Ours are steel boned for light shaping and perfect for layering under everyday outfits or special occasion dresses.

  • Girdles & Pantie Girdles: Defined by Mary Brooks Picken as “a light-weight, flexible corset,” girdles provided shaping from the waist to the hips and thighs. Our open-bottom girdles are ideal with seamed stockings and perfect for pin-up styling.

  • Corselettes & Merry Widows: All-in-one shaping garments, often worn under fitted dresses or gowns for a sleek, streamlined figure. The Merry Widow became iconic in the 1950s, combining bust support, waist shaping, and hip smoothing in one elegant piece.

Modern Comfort Meets Vintage Style

While the look is true to vintage, the feel is all about comfort. Unlike stiff or restrictive true vintage shapewear of the past, our designs are soft against the skin and breathable, with two-way stretch fabrics that move with you throughout the day. The result? You’ll feel as good as you look.

Everything is designed in-house and ethically made in our trusted factory, using fabrics that match the look and feel of true vintage lingerie while standing up to modern expectations.
