Nude and Black Seamed Stocking

Nude and Black Seamed Stockings

There are just two styles of stocking that are essential if you love to dress vintage. The first is a natural skin tone Nude Seamed Stocking. The second is a vampy sheer Black Seamed Stocking.

In the 1940s, ‘50s and ‘50s a skintone nude stocking would be worn during the day. Sheer black stockings would be reserved for evening wear.

Today we make our own rules so you can wear whatever colour stockings you like, whenever you like! You can even ring the changes by combining the two. Try our Contrast Seamed Stockings that feature a nude leg and contrasting black seam. Who says you can’t have it all?

Nude Seamed Stockings

For an authentic 1940s and 1950s look nude seamed stockings are an essential part of your look. Nude seams were worn during the day in the '40s and '50s, and our sheer 15 denier nylons come in three shades of nude: champagne, nutmeg and coffee, to cover a wide variety of skintones.

Our Glamour Seamed Stockings are generously sized and comfortably fit up to a UK dress size 18. Our Curve Seamed Stockings fit up to a 26, so it's time to turn on the glamour!

We Love Seamed Stockings!

If you’re looking to buy Seamed Stockings you’re in the right place! At What Katie Did we started way back in 1999 just selling Seamed Stockings and had our own little stocking boutique in Camden, London. Things have moved on a little since then but nylons remain very close to our hearts.

We Wear Our Seamed Stockings!

Our Glamour Seamed Stockings are made to our own unique designs in Italy, the home of quality hosiery manufacturing. It came as a bit of a surprise to our factory that we actually wear our stockings: apparently we were the first brand they had visited who actually wore the items on a day to day basis! Because of this we are very particular about our stockings and want to make our Seamed Stockings the best stockings available.

Wide, Stretchy, Comfortable Stocking Tops

First up, our Glamour Seamed Stockings feature a nice, wide, stretchy welt (the stocking top). Narrow welts can often dig into thighs making wearing stockings uncomfortable so we were the first stocking brand to reintroduce a nice wide, retro, style welt to Seamed Stockings. In addition, our Glamour Stockings have just a touch of elastane which means more stretch than traditional stockings, again meaning more comfort.

'Stockings were actually surprisingly hard to keep in stock, but we ordered seamed stockings from What Katie Did. We’d go to What Katie Did for underwear and a couple other contemporary places that still carry more traditional style bras and undies'.

Lou Eyrich, costume designer for 'Hollywood' (Netflix).

'Her stylish black seamed nylon stockings, for example, were not readily available to the average woman in the marketplace, yet helped establish her fashion-forward look. You’ll see the other female characters in the show donning the traditional nude seamed stockings when they were available'.

Giovanna Ottobre-Melton, costume designer for 'Agent Peggy Carter'.

Buy Seamed Stockings at What Katie Did, as seen on the silver screen in Ratched, Hollywood, Lovecraft Country, the State vs Billie Holiday, Mank and many more.

Vintage Style with Modern Comfort

Back in the 1950s stockings used to be knitted flat and the seam added afterwards to hold the stockings together. This traditional style are known as ‘Fully Fashioned Stockings’. Our Glamour Nude Seamed Stockings are made on circular knit machines and the seam is just for decoration, although we have strived to make it look as authentic as we possibly can.

Our Stockings on the Silver Screen

Rest assured you’ll be in good company when you wear our neutral Glamour Seamed Stockings as they’re a favourite of film and TV studio costume departments. You might have caught a glimpse of Aunt Polly in Peaky Blinders in our Glamour Black Seamed Stockings, Agent Peggy Carter in our Contrast Champagne and Black Seamed Nylons or just a glimpse or just Champagne and Latte Seamed Stockings in Netflix’s Hollywood.
